National (Top) Dog Day
There seems no better time than National Dog Day to celebrate my heritage (and see how I stack up). The American Kennel Association (AKC) describes Golden Retrievers as intelligent, friendly and devoted. Well, I am enthusiastically all of those! The AKC also says, “For a breed built to retrieve waterfowl for hours on end, swimming and fetching are natural pastimes.” Hmm…not sure what a waterfowl is, but I am a proud fetcher of tennis balls and sticks! I hope that gives me some points. Swimming in a pool is not so “natural” for me. I tend to be cautious. So, I signed up to learn at Lucky Paws Resort. They know how to do it the right way and gave me some much-needed confidence. I like making “The Golden Nation” proud, but my real gold star is to live up to being Top Dog at BD&E. As successor to that title, I have some big paws to fill. Here’s to all breeds and combinations of canine character…Happy National Dog Day!
