DRIVE BACK TO 1986

An Amusement Park for the Mind
In 1986 when the world-renowned Carnegie Museums became “The Carnegie,” BD&E was tapped to brand the expanding cultural powerhouse. To accomplish this, a quartet of cubes was graphically combined to symbolize its four principal divisions—literature, music, art and natural history.
Five years later, in 1991, the Carnegie Science Center was developed through a partnership with the Buhl Foundation. At that time, BD&E took the existing institutional identity and gave it a more playful and whimsical feel with the addition of graphic elements representing the new Science Center’s planetarium, Omnimax theater and riverfront location.
Bright primary colors and simple linear styling created a memorable mark that welcomed audiences with creative discovery.
