We Can Do It!

As Women’s History Month comes to an end, I would like to acknowledge all of the female canines in history that provided therapeutic aid, vigilantly served society, and lit up the silver screen.

One story I would like to share goes all the way back to 1928 when Morris Frank became the first blind American to partner with a Seeing Eye dog. With dog trainer Dorothy Harrison, he created The Seeing Eye, the first training facility in the world for Seeing Eye dogs. With Buddy by his side, Frank pushed for passage of laws allowing service dogs to have public access, and these became the basis for the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act. Hail to the female canine heroes, and to those who simply bring tail-wagging happiness.
